She spent 12 years as the Community Liaison for the Lowell Police Department, where she built strong relationships and coordinated events such as National Night Out, Back to School initiatives, and the Water Festival. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with neighborhood groups and nonprofits to plan meaningful programs that bring people together. As CMAA’s Special Events Coordinator, Rena is excited to return to where it all began. She looks forward to using her passion for networking and community engagement to create impactful events that strengthen connections and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Lowell.

Khmer Language Class Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association offers Khmer Language Classes at beginner and intermediate levels. Beginner Level This is a basic introductory language acquisition module for absolute beginners in the written and spoken language; students are not assumed to have any previous knowledge of the language. During the course, students will learn Khmer alphabets, how to form and read Khmer words, phrases and sentences. Intermediate Level The class covers several basic constructions of the language, enabling students to acquire basic skills in reading, writing, comprehension and speaking. We apply a communicative-based approach in our teaching. Emphasis will be placed on good pronunciation and on the social and linguistic conventions of everyday conversation. Successful students will gain the ability to read and write short simple texts, and communicate on simple topics. Then, they will learn from easy to more challenging Khmer conversations; by doing so, we enable them to understand and speak Khmer more quickly. Prior to this role, Nich worked as the Monorom Family Support Program’s Assistant providing direct services to families and individuals with special needs. In her new role, she will be responsible for coordinating fundraiser events, assisting in cultivating relationships with individual and corporate donors, overseeing CMAA’s social media, and producing CMAA Weekly News, among other tasks. A Khmer-English bilingual, Nich holds a Master of Science in Educational Research from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Bachelor’s Degrees in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and Finance & Banking from the University of Cambodia.

Silvia has more than 13 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations with an expertise in streamlining processes and optimizing efficiency. She is experienced in managing operations and overseeing contracts to ensure smooth business operations. We look forward to working with her in analyzing data, negotiating agreements, and maintaining and improving compliance within the company. Youth classes are taught by Mr. Chantha Thang and Adult classes are taught by Mr. Tararith Kho. ••• Tararith Kho is a Cambodian poet, publisher, and educator who has been instrumental in the founding of PEN-Cambodia. Co-founder of the Nou Hach Literature Project and of an affiliated journal that published fiction, essays, and poetry sometimes critical of the Cambodian government. Kho was subjected to threatening anonymous phone calls and emailed death threats which forced him to resign from the Project in January 2010. Kho was a fellow at Harvard hosted by the Department of Comparative Literature. He now teaches Khmer language and developed programs in Khmer language and literature at Middlesex Community College, as well as CMAA's Youth Services After School Program along with Ida Borin.

← Staff Vannaret Tek Monorom Program Assistant II Department(s): Wrap-Around Community Services E-Mail: vtek@cmaalowell.org Office Extension: (978) 454-6200 x1013 Direct Line: (351) 500-6443 Vannaret Tek joined CMAA on April 10, 2023 as our Wrap-Around Community Services Assistant and Drop-Off Respite Assistant for the Monorom Family Support Program. Vannaret enjoys using her skills to contribute to our community. She has had more than 27 years of experience working alongside educational areas, specialized in leading and monitoring Teacher Training throughout Cambodia. In 2020, Vannaret worked for Dignity Hospice Care as an Office Coordinator and between 2020 and 2021, she worked for WIC (Women Infants and Children). Vannaret graduated from Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2015 and has a Master Degree in Education and Planning.
