ESOL Overview English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classes are for adult learners whose native language is not English. - In order to register, students must reside in the Greater Lowell area and be at least 18 years old. - Photo ID and proof of addres s are required before starting classes. All instruction is in English. Reading, writing and speaking skills are taught. Students are grouped in Beginner, Low, Intermediate or Advanced classes according to their placement test scores. If you choose a class that is not available at your level, you will be asked to choose a different class. Class Schedule Options will be on the Registration Form. (There may be changes in classes due to circumstances beyond our control.) In 1984, Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association was founded to help alleviate these gaps and provide support to the Cambodian communities in the Greater Lowell as well as other areas in the US. Our services range from language translation to assisting with food and shelter resources to organizing community events that bring people together. We believe that by providing the necessary resources and support, individuals can achieve their fullest potential and create fulfilling lives in their new home. Our Vision We are committed to creating positive change and fostering a brighter future by working closely with our community and partnering with other organizations. Our vision: Cambodian Americans, and other ethnic minority groups, are not only economically self-sufficient, but are active engaged leaders of their communities. Our Progress At CMAA, we are proud of our bitter past, which has made us resilient and stronger. Many of our community members have overcome great adversity, from being refugees to becoming teachers, business owners, engineers, scientists, healthcare providers, local and state representatives. Present Day Today, CMAA is proud to be one of the leading nonprofits serving the Cambodian-American community with a wide range of programs and services designed to help people overcome the challenges they face. Since our launch in 1984, our team has worked tirelessly to promote our cause. We are fortunate to have funders, supporters, volunteers and staff from all walks of life bringing their unique expertise and resources into everything we do. This is what enables us to achieve our goals year after year. While there is always more that can be done, there is no doubt that we are making a significant impact.
