Chiemruom has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and social service sector, including at the Cambridge Housing Authority, YouthBuild USA, North Shore Community College, Hyams Foundation, Coalition for a Better Acre and the state Department of Unemployment Assistance. He was a deputy director of CMAA in the late 1990s and currently serves as a trustee of the Affordable Housing Trust in Tyngsboro. “I have worked in areas that engaged and promoted youth development, the education of rights for immigrants and refugees, leadership development, community economic development, civic participation and, most importantly, empowering self-sufficiency in community members,” Chiemruom said. “I believe I can bring new perspectives to build trust to address many issues that the community faces. In addition, CMAA supports and engages not only Khmer families, but also others who seek assistance and who are facing similar challenges.” Chiemruom brings a wealth of experience in day-to-day program operations, administration, program management, professional development, budget management and reporting, public and government relations and policies and procedures compliance.

    First Time Home Buyer Training Our First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) classes are offered in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership’s Project Genesis (MVHP). CMAA supports the outreach, recruiting, and translation in Khmer Language for classes held on location at our office. MVHP provides the instructors, speakers and handouts. We are proud to make these classes accessible to a significant segment of the Lowell community that is unable to participate in other Home Buyer classes due to the language barrier. First Time Home Buyer Training (FTHB) in Khmer Language Home ownership is one of the most powerful asset building strategies for families. Purchasing a home is a complex transaction that requires much planning and preparation, including building good credit, saving for a down payment, working with a realtor to find a home that meets the family’s needs, negotiating a purchase price, applying for loans and evaluating competing loan offers, closing the loan, and then maintaining the home and family finances. Our First Time Home Buyer (FTHB) classes are offered in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership’s Project Genesis (MVHP) .     Khmer Language Class Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association offers Khmer Language Classes at beginner and intermediate levels. Beginner Level This is a basic introductory language acquisition module for absolute beginners in the written and spoken language; students are not assumed to have any previous knowledge of the language. During the course, students will learn Khmer alphabets, how to form and read Khmer words, phrases and sentences. Intermediate Level The class covers several basic constructions of the language, enabling students to acquire basic skills in reading, writing, comprehension and speaking. We apply a communicative-based approach in our teaching. Emphasis will be placed on good pronunciation and on the social and linguistic conventions of everyday conversation. Successful students will gain the ability to read and write short simple texts, and communicate on simple topics. Then, they will learn from easy to more challenging Khmer conversations; by doing so, we enable them to understand and speak Khmer more quickly.
