Sophal has a Bachelor's degree from Phnom Penh University, Cambodia, in the Art of Japanese (Japanese for Business), and has taught as a Japanese Teacher. Sophal has been living in the U.S. for over 6 years with her husband and her daughter. She has joined the JVS Job Readiness Training Program and also has certificates such as, the Monorom Family Support Program's Computer Training and Certificate of Achievement (Diabetes Self-Management Workshop at Monorom Program. Sophal loves the opportunities, freedom and the life that she has built up here in the U.S.

Prior to this role, Nich worked as the Monorom Family Support Program’s Assistant providing direct services to families and individuals with special needs. In her new role, she will be responsible for coordinating fundraiser events, assisting in cultivating relationships with individual and corporate donors, overseeing CMAA’s social media, and producing CMAA Weekly News, among other tasks. A Khmer-English bilingual, Nich holds a Master of Science in Educational Research from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Bachelor’s Degrees in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, and Finance & Banking from the University of Cambodia.

Chiemruom has over 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and social service sector, including at the Cambridge Housing Authority, YouthBuild USA, North Shore Community College, Hyams Foundation, Coalition for a Better Acre and the state Department of Unemployment Assistance. He was a deputy director of CMAA in the late 1990s and currently serves as a trustee of the Affordable Housing Trust in Tyngsboro. “I have worked in areas that engaged and promoted youth development, the education of rights for immigrants and refugees, leadership development, community economic development, civic participation and, most importantly, empowering self-sufficiency in community members,” Chiemruom said. “I believe I can bring new perspectives to build trust to address many issues that the community faces. In addition, CMAA supports and engages not only Khmer families, but also others who seek assistance and who are facing similar challenges.” Chiemruom brings a wealth of experience in day-to-day program operations, administration, program management, professional development, budget management and reporting, public and government relations and policies and procedures compliance.

ESOL Class In partnership with Frederick Assad Abisi Adult Education, CMAA’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes program provide opportunities for community members seeking to improve English language skills. ESOL Class (English for Speakers of Other Languages) In partnership with Frederick Assad Abisi Adult Education , CMAA’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes program provide opportunities for community members seeking to improve English language skills. ESOL Overview English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classes are for adult learners whose native language is not English. - In order to register, students must reside in the Greater Lowell area and be at least 18 years old. - Photo ID and proof of addres s are required before starting classes. All instruction is in English. Reading, writing and speaking skills are taught. Students are grouped in Beginner, Low, Intermediate or Advanced classes according to their placement test scores. If you choose a class that is not available at your level, you will be asked to choose a different class. Class Schedule Options will be on the Registration Form. (There may be changes in classes due to circumstances beyond our control.)
