PRESS RELEASE < Back Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association calls for peace in Cambodia Dec 20, 2025 PRESS RELEASE Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association Calls for Peace for Cambodia Lowell, Massachusetts December 20, 2025 The Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Lowell, Massachusetts, speaks today with deep concern and urgency as violence along the Cambodia Thailand border once again threatens Cambodian lives. CMAA is a community built by Cambodian survivors, refugees, and their children. We carry the memory of war in our families and in our bodies. We know what it means to flee, to lose home, and to rebuild from nothing. That is why we cannot stay silent when Cambodia is pushed toward conflict again. Cambodian authorities have reported civilian deaths in the current violence, and we mourn every life lost. Civilians must never be targets. Homes, schools, infrastructure, and temples must be protected, including Cambodia’s treasured heritage sites near the border. CMAA stands firmly with Cambodia. We believe Cambodia’s position that it does not seek war and that this escalation began with aggression from Thailand. Cambodia has shown restraint. Cambodia continues to choose peace. We call on Thailand to end its aggression immediately. Stop the violence and respect Cambodia’s sovereignty. Honor the ceasefire reached in Malaysia with international support, including the United States, and return to de-escalation and dialogue so families can live without fear. “Cambodia does not want war. Cambodia wants peace, and we call for an immediate end to the aggression so our people can live safely and with dignity,” said Sothea Chiemruom, Executive Director of CMAA. As a refugee community, we are living proof that peace can be chosen. We refuse to pass fear and trauma to another generation. Let the world hear us clearly. Cambodia does not want war.
