CMAA welcomes the Burmese group
The Burma Volunteer Group (BVG) encourages refugees from Burma to address their own needs and to become fully self-sufficient in the United States. By providing advocacy, assistance, education, information sharing, networking, fund-raising and social support, BVG assists refugees from Burma to bridge the cultural and practical realities of a new life in the USA.
Via a network of committed individuals, BVG has been assisting the newly arrived refugee population since 2009. BVG comprises of committed individuals, many of Burmese origin who are familiar with life in the United States and understand the ongoing needs of the community from Burma. BVG welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds to share their skills and to learn about the unique culture, background and experience of the different ethnic groups.
Our goal is to support refugees from Burma to positively contribute to the rich diversity of the city of Lowell, positively promoting their culture whilst living enriched and fulfilled lives as New Americans in Lowell. Our long-term vision is for BVG to become a community organization run by refugees for refugees, achieved through ongoing capacity building.
